![]() Helen combines historical research, mainly in Ethiopia and Wales, with writing and illustrating books. She also produces artwork - paintings, sketches and photographs based on her travels. Her interest in biodiversity has resulted in her developing a forest garden in Wales and keeping a pictorial record of plants located there. She is currently researching the history of Bodelwyddan from Roman times up to the present. |

The story of a celebrity marriage in the 19th Century. Henry Morton Stanley, born John Rowlands in Denbigh in 1841, was a famous explorer who travelled to the interior of Africa initially to find Dr.Livingstone and subsequently to explore the River Congo and the lands between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean.
After his final expedition, to save Emin Pasha, he married Dorothy Tennant. Dolly, as she was known, was an illustrator and artist who was already well-known to politicians, artists and other famous people, many of whom attended the parties she held with her mother at 2 Richmond Terrace, London.
